BETHEL ISLAND, Ca. - For those of you that did not have the opportunity to participate in last year's Berkley Big Bass Challenge, you missed a truly exciting event. But not to worry... this same exciting event is just around the corner and will be back at the California delta, May 22nd and 23rd, at Russo's Marina bringing with it more fun and bigger payouts than ever before!
The format of this event is truly unique in that it pits angling skill against weigh-in strategy and many of the anglers that have participated in the past two Berkley Big Bass challenges, have begun referring to the event as bass fishing’s version of Texas “hold em” poker. That’s because during each hour – for six hours, anglers catching a big fish quickly become faced with making the decision to either “cash in” their hand (or big fish) for a chance at that hours big fish money, OR “hold em” and opt to bring their BIG Bass to the scales during the following hour, with the hopes of grabbing a piece of that hours BIG Bass cash bounty.
And the seven cash awards paid out after each hour for six hours are lucrative indeed ($1,350 paid out each hour), as the angler with the biggest fish of that hour will receive $500 cash plus qualify at the end of the event, to be one of the “Super 12” finalists who will each receive a key… one of which will be guaranteed to start a new Toyota Tundra truck courtesy of Tracy Toyota!
The challenge… ONLY Berkley baits can be used during the two day competition.
You heard right…seven checks per hour, for six hours, for two days straight, OVER $16,000 IN CASH , with the top 12 hourly big fish winners having a chance to win a brand new Toyota Tundra truck, all for a $155 per person entry fee that covers you for both days. And, if those “honey do’s” get you boxed in, where you simply can’t fish both days, you can still get in on the fun, as you can sign up for the one-day entry fee of just $105 dollars.
And the best part is that the new Toyota Tundra, along with the seven per hour/per day checks, are GUARANTEED to be given away…regardless of the size of the field!
This represents an over 250% payback based on one hundred participants! How does it get better than that?!
Anglers arriving Friday, the day before the event at Russo’s Marina, will also have the opportunity to attend seminars hosted by Berkley pro-staff. The Berkley Experience trailer, a 70 foot plus rolling event center, will be stationed at Russo’s Marina that Friday until the final weigh-in and awards on Sunday, offering interactive presentation screens, Wii video games, a knot tying station and competition, plus bait demonstration tanks. You will also be able to pick up some of the latest Berkley product under the big event tent as the Hook, Line, and Sinker, staff will be on duty in the tent to help ensure you have all the product you will need to be prepared for the next day’s competition. And save your empty BERKLEY GULP! and POWERBAIT bags as we will host a big raffle at the end of event where you can trade your bags for raffle tickets!
Also new for this year…for those of you that wish to fish with your kids, we will have a separate youth division available (16 and under) where for a $25 per youth entry fee, they will fish for the youth division trophy, some great prizes, and a guided day trip on the delta with Berkley Pro Randy Pringle – “The Fishing Instructor”. And, as a bonus…the first twenty-five kids that signup will also receive a nice Synergy rod and reel /tackle combo, courtesy of Shakespeare!
California anglers...this is an unprecedented chance to partcipate in a fun, exciting venue that is close to home, very inexpensive to fish, on a body of water known across the country for producing BIG fish, with an unbelievable payback. And as there will also be delicious southern style BBQ, music, seminars, and lots of vendor booths to visit during the event, we invite everyone (even if you can’t fish) to come out and watch all of the fun!
