To participate in an event, you must be a registered Future Pro Tour member.

What to expect at a Future Pro Tour event:

At each event, there will be a pre-registration check-in the night before. The check-in location, date and time can be found on the event detail page for that event in the events section. If you check in the night before, you do not need to check in at the table in the morning. If you do not check in the night before, you must do so at the check-in table the morning of the event. At the check-in, you will recieve your boat number and flight number.

The morning of the event, if already checked in, you and your partner will launch your boat. Make sure your running lights are on!

Wait in the water with your partner until your boat number is called. If you are in a late flight, such as flights 3 through 6, try to stay back away from the blast-off area so those in flights ahead of you can blast off with ease. As your flight gets closer to blast-off slowly make your way toward the blast-off area.

The blast-off boat will make its way out to the blast-off area. At this time, you should shut your engine off to allow the announcer to speak. The announcer will explain last-minute rules such as bag limit, minimum fish length, and off limits areas. He will also announce the official weigh-in times for the different flights. At a normal event, flight one will weigh in at 3:00 PM. Flight two will weigh in at 3:15 PM, and so on.

Once the announcer gives your boat number the OK to blast off, get moving and catch some fish!

When it's time to weigh in, make 100% sure to be back on time. If your weigh-in time is at 3:15 PM, you better be at the ramp at 3:15 PM or sooner. Every minute you are late, you are docked weight from your catch. If you are more than five minutes late, your weight is forfeit!

There will be a check-in boat waiting for you at the weigh-in location. Give him your boat number so he knows that you have arrived on time. If you do not check in with the check-in boat, your weight will be forfeit!

The weigh-in process differs from event to event. At Berryessa, for example, the weigh-in is held at Spanish Flat Resort. After checking in, you are instructed to park your boat against a floating dock. A bag will be given to you when available, and you will put your fish in the bag to be weighed. You will then carry your fish across the dock to the weigh-in station. After weighing your fish, you will walk back to your boat and release your fish. You will then take your boat to the ramp to take it out of the water. At an event held at Brannon Island State Park on the Delta, you will pull your boat out of the water after checking in. You will then drive to the back of the weigh-in line. You will drive your truck all the way up to the weigh-in station. This is called a drive-through weigh in. You will take your fish out of the boat, weigh them, and put them back in your boat. You will then drive away from the station, back to the ramp. Back your truck into the water, and release your fish.

At the weigh-in station, there are a few key things to remember. If you entered in the big fish option, you must declare a big fish before handing your bag to the weigh-master (the guy who weighs your fish). To declare a big fish, simply say "I want to weigh a big fish" before handing over your bag. It's easy! If you do not declare a big fish before handing over your bag, you will not have the chance to weigh a big fish, no matter how huge it may be! After you hand your bag to the weigh-master, they will be placed on the scale and weighed. Your bag will then be handed back to you, and you will recieve a weigh slip. This slip proves your weight, so hang on to it!

After all of the boats have weighed in, the staff must calculate the results (which this season are automatically calculated). During this time, at specific events only, food will be available to purchase. Shortly before the results are announced, the staff will raffle off hundreds of dollars in prizes. When announcing the results, if your name is called to recieve a check, make your way up to collect your prize. If you win a trophy, you must stay after for photos.

Options

Options are simply side-bets to increase your chances of winning more money.

Big Fish Option

The big fish option is a side bet to see who can catch the biggest fish. It has nothing to do with your total weight. The biggest fish caught by an angler who entered the big fish option is declared big fish of the tournament, and claims a prize upwards of $500.00 at times. There is also, second big fish, and sometimes third big fish. Payback depends on the number of anglers who entered big fish.

$10 and $20 Options

These options function exactly the same as the big fish option, but they depend on your team's finish position, rather than big fish weight. The highest finishing team who got in the $20 option, will recieve the first place prize for the $20 option pot, even if that team did not win the tournament. Depending on the number of boats and entries into these options, the payback places and amounts could vary.

4" TRU-LIFE Swimbait

The new Tru-Life 4” swimbait becomes the latest in Tru-Tungsten’s line of big baits albeit, as a smaller counterpart to its two predecessors.

The Tru-Life 4” is tiny in relation to traditional swimbaits to which we are growing more and more accustomed. As the name for this bait describes, it is a mere four inches in length. It is available in two models, a floater/moderate sinker and a moderate sinker/fast sinker. The bait is also available in 6 colors, Shad, Bluegill, Chartreuse Shad, Baby Bass, Perch and Blue Back Herring.

Each of the two models of the bait can be configured to run at different depths by inserting or removing tungsten balls. These balls are placed in a small chamber in the belly of the bait, and each bait can hold up to two 4.5 millimeter tungsten balls giving each version three different weights (no balls, 1 ball, 2 balls). Both versions of the bait will retail at $19.99.

As the big bait phenomenon spreads across the country, smaller swimbaits are becoming a popular new trend from many of the manufacturers. Tru-Tungsten’s entry into this new small swimbait class looks promising. The Tru-Life 4” swimbait is expected to hit store shelves early this coming fall in both models and all six colors.
